Short Description: A phlebotomy assistant or technician draws blood and prepares it for testing. Since many people fear needles and the sight of blood, the phlebotomy assistant instills trust and comfort in patients by creating a safe, professional, and compassionate environment. Constantly evolving technology has created a constantly growing demand for medical lab tests, and phlebotomy assistants are benefiting from this. The range of skills a phlebotomist masters are useful in almost every other healthcare career path. The median income for phlebotomy technicians in 2015-2016 was $33,000 (entry-level starts at $22,000 and highly experienced technicians earn $45,000).

Instructor Description: This course provides students with certified, skilled facilitators to guide them through their learning experience. Facilitators who are well trained in a unique mastery methodology and provide one-on-one instruction to their students to ensure mastery of the course material. The course facilitator is available to answer any questions a learner may have including questions on course content, course material, certifications, and even industry questions. Facilitators also monitor the progress of learners to ensure training retention and program advancement.

Certification: Students who complete this program will be prepared, in part, to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician Exam. To sit for the certification exam, students must supply proof of successfully performing a minimum of 30 venipuncture and 10 capillary sticks on live individuals. In addition to the national certification, several state certification exams exist to test the competency of aspiring phlebotomy technicians.
