Nursing assistants are key members of the healthcare team. Prospects for employment are very good in most areas and jobs may be found in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home health agencies. Learn basic care skills including physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients. Course covers procedures, communications and interpersonal relations, observation, charting and reporting, care planning, safety and infection control, anatomy/physiology, nutrition, patient feeding, ethics, death and dying. Prepares multi-skilled health care workers to care for patients of various ages with emphasis on geriatric nursing. Applies theory through laboratory experience for health care technicians to work in home health, long- and short-term facilities. All students required to submit to a background check and drug screen prior to attending clinical sessions. Lecture 8 hours per week (4 hours/night). Lab work 6 hours on 6 Saturdays. Textbooks, background check and drug screen included.
